Asthma Treatment

St. Paul Lung Clinic’s asthma program is two-fold; providing patient education and a personalized asthma action plan. The nurse will provide you with asthma education materials to help you better understand asthma and why you are taking your medication. Your asthma action plan is a written plan on how to manage your asthma and what to do if it gets worse. The plan is formulated by your doctor at St. Paul Lung Clinic, given to you, and a copy is sent to your primary doctor along with a letter summarizing your asthma management and risk of exacerbation. This allows everyone involved in your care to know how your asthma is being managed.

Your personalized asthma action plan helps you manage your asthma, stay in control and stay out of the emergency room. If your asthma is well maintained with your asthma action plan, you will have a check-up visit with St. Paul Lung Clinic in 6-12 months. If your plan is not working for you, your doctor will work to formulate a new plan to keep your asthma under control.
